A “Hard Rain”

A Book Study: Hard Rain by Frye Gaillard. The class was taught by Frye Gaillard himself!

The Racial Justice and Reconciliation Committee of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church sponsored a three-week class by University of South Alabama Writer in Residence Frye Gaillard on his award-winning book, A Hard Rain: America in the 1960s, Our Decade of Hope, Possibility, and Innocence Lost. Gaillard discussed the history of a turbulent and pivotal decade in American history and the lessons and warnings it may hold for today. A Hard Rain was named by NPR as one of the Great Reads of 2018 and won the Fitzgerald Museum Literary Prize and the Alabama Governor’s Award for the Arts. Gaillard is a native of Mobile. In 2020, he co-taught a class on Isabel Wilkerson’s best-seller, Caste, also sponsored by Dauphin Way.
