Joy for Johnny Respite Ministry

About Joy for Johnny

Joy for Johnny is a respite ministry for families that have children with special needs. An outreach ministry of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, Joy for Johnny honors Jesus’ desire that all children be welcomed and embraced as members of the Kingdom. Children with special needs, together with their families, receive the loving support of Christ’s church through respite care.

Joy for Johnny is offered the second Saturday of every month. Parents are invited to enjoy an evening to themselves while their children – including siblings, if desired – are treated to four hours of fun! Activities may include arts and crafts, outdoor play, supper, a Bible story time and worship. Children are encouraged to participate as much as they are able.

Joy for Johnny is named for Johnny Miller, the late son of former pastor and staff member Rev. Carlisle and Irene Miller.

Volunteer Information

We would love to have you join us once a month to introduce you to the amazing children that participate in Joy for Johnny.

You do not need any special medical training to volunteer, all you need is love! Volunteers are needed from 3:30 – 8:00 pm. All children, including siblings, are matched one-on-one with a volunteer.

You will need to agree to a national criminal background search. This is part of the application process.

Can’t come every month? That’s okay! We are always in need of substitutes and other volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up and administration.

Click the button below to be redirected to the application. Then, simply print it out and return it to our office at 1507 Dauphin Street. You may also scan and email the form to info@dauphinwayumc.org. We hope to see you soon!
